Our Chapter

OVERVIEW

The San Pedro Chapter is a local affiliate of Catholic Relief Services. Our Chapter draws members from several local parishes to organize grassroots support for CRS's ministries. The San Pedro Chapter frequently networks with other Chapters in the Greater Los Angeles area, all of which receive guidance from the national CRS organization, led by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. CRS Chapters pursue several specific goals:

  • Support CRS efforts with fundraising in local parishes and communities

  • Promote awareness of CRS efforts and key challenges facing the poor and vulnerable

  • Advocate for policies that support CRS and the communities it serves overseas

What We're Doing

Take a look at our recent and upcoming events to see how our chapter is involved in CRS's work.

INVOLVEMENT

We welcome any and all participation and interest! Our work provides flexible opportunities for participation. Our chapter chooses how to act on the priorities and suggestions provided by the national CRS organization.

  • Monthly Zoom meetings with the CRS San Pedro Chapter to coordinate actions

  • Monthly Zoom meetings from the national CRS organization to access the latest resources on CRS's efforts overseas and advocacy needs at home

  • In-person and virtual meetings with government officials during the fall and spring legislative sessions to share our perspective on proposed legislation

  • Presentations to local groups and parishes to raise awareness and participation.

ADVOCACY

Following guidance from the national CRS organization, our chapter advocates on key issues of legislation with congressional representatives to support government programs underpinning CRS's work.

FUNDRAISING

It takes a village - gathering funds for CRS, especially during the Lenten Rice Bowl campaign, provides crucial income for CRS and connects those in the San Pedro region with their brothers and sisters worldwide.

AWARENESS

Through presentations, meetings, and our blog, we promote awareness of the problems threatening survival in the world's poorest communities to inspire support for CRS and encourage independent advocacy.

COMMUNITY

Our activities provide fellowship between those eager to share their talents and means to improve our world.
